We are learning about toys and how they have changed over time. We made our own toys with paint, cotton wool, googley eyes and stickers. We labelled our finished work using the Skitch app on our tablet. Check out our great artwork!

Our Visit to Howick Historical Village
Room 7 went to Howick Historical Village to explore how people lived, worked and played in the past. We played with old toys, went to a historical school, sung and danced to nursery rhymes and learnt about how people travelled to New Zealand from England on a big ship... It was a 100 day journey! We loved exploring the village at the end of the day, walking through the houses, workshops and community buildings. We had a great day!

Author and Illustrator Lyn Kreigler
We were very lucky to be visited by Lyn who inspired us with her funny stories and furry puppets!
Lyn told us about when she was a little girl and use to create her own stories with teddies and dolls.
She taught us how to draw animals using numbers and our names... Did you know the number '5' can be made into a dog?!
We loved being a part of her stories and making funny puppet voices.

Auckland Art Gallery
We are learning about 'Landscapes' ...
To help us understand more about landscapes we went to the Auckland Art Gallery. We saw different types of landscapes painted by famous artists and we even painted our own using dye!
In the Gallery we learnt that things that are near to us in a painting will be big and things that are in the distance will be much smaller. We loved making a 'soundscape' together - we all imagined that we were inside the painting then made noises we thought we would be able to hear.
In the Studio we painted our own landscapes using three different colours of dye. We tilted our paper so that the dye mixed together and made different colours and shapes. Then we used a straw to blow the dye into all different kinds of patterns!
