During our flower experiment we took a photo of the rose every 30 seconds using our class camera. We did this from 9am until 11am and took over 100 photos. We turned these pictures into a time lapse video. Can you see how the rose changes colour?

Our Flower Experiment
We have been learning about our environment and how to take care of our plants and trees. We made an experiment to see how we can affect how our plants and trees grow. We put some coloured dye into some water then placed a white rose into the water. We wanted to see what would happen to the flowers the next day.
"We have been learning about plants and how they need us and we need them." Will
"We need to treat our flowers nicely by putting them in the sun and giving them water." Tanner
"We need plants and trees to give us oxygen" Shaun
"We put coloured dye into a jar and we put some white flowers in there too. We wanted to see what would happen to the flowers." Emil
"The flowers turned red and blue from the dye." Claire
"This is because the flowers sucked up the water with the dye through their stem." Lucia
"I thought it was really fun because we got to take pictures of it." Afrina
"I learnt that we need flowers because they make the earth look beautiful" Tanner
"I learnt that it is important to look after our plants by not throwing rubbish around and looking after our water and soil." Will

Storybird
Tanner's Storybird
I like this story because it has robots in it. I like writing my own stories on Storybird.
Emil's Storybird
This is my Storybird. It has lots of different animals and robots in it. I like writing my own stories because I can do it by myself and I can think of my own ideas.

My Best Friend
Scarlett is our computer 'Paint' expert in Room 7. She created this story on PowerPoint, making all of the illustrations herself using the Paint program on the computer. Well done Scarlett we love reading your story and looking at your amazing artwork!
My Wild Self
We are learning to use juicy describing words in our writing. We made our own wild selves and wrote about them using lots of great adjectives. Look at our great writing below:
This is my wild self. I
think I look so pretty and I have a cool t-shirt with love hearts. I love my
wild self. I have two ostrich feet.

fluffy polar bear ears. On top of my head I have long nice feathers. I have
lots of other cool heathers around myself. I love my wild self! The background
looks like a zoo because it is a zoo and a beautiful butterfly!

Afrina
This is my wild self. I
have a lightning t-shirt. I have bat wings and awesome glasses. I have cool
yellow shoes and so cool black pants.

Melted Crayon Art
We had an exciting time creating a class work of art for the Big Night Out art auction. We used a hot glue gun to glue crayons onto a canvas then used a hairdryer to melt the crayons down the canvas. We made flowers out of fabric and jewels to finish this colourful wax garden. Our favourite part was watching the crayons drip down the canvas.

Te Ika a Maui
This term we will be learning about water as a part of our focus on "Treasuring our World". To begin our study we looked at the Maori story "The Fish of Maui". We learnt about how Maui caught the North Island of New Zealand on his waka. We retold these stories in our own words... Have a read below!

My Toy
We are learning about toys and how they have changed over time. We made our own toys with paint, cotton wool, googley eyes and stickers. We labelled our finished work using the Skitch app on our tablet. Check out our great artwork!

Our Visit to Howick Historical Village
Room 7 went to Howick Historical Village to explore how people lived, worked and played in the past. We played with old toys, went to a historical school, sung and danced to nursery rhymes and learnt about how people travelled to New Zealand from England on a big ship... It was a 100 day journey! We loved exploring the village at the end of the day, walking through the houses, workshops and community buildings. We had a great day!

Author and Illustrator Lyn Kreigler
We were very lucky to be visited by Lyn who inspired us with her funny stories and furry puppets!
Lyn told us about when she was a little girl and use to create her own stories with teddies and dolls.
She taught us how to draw animals using numbers and our names... Did you know the number '5' can be made into a dog?!
We loved being a part of her stories and making funny puppet voices.
